“True hope is swift, and flies with swallow's wings;

Kings it makes gods, and meaner creatures kings.”

Richard III, Act 5, Scene 2. William Shakespeare.

On the eve of battle, a man prepares to attend a feast, thinking back over his life and becoming increasingly preoccupied by guilt. Decades earlier, a woodsman and his wife move into a cottage in a forest, but their happiness does not last long. Could it be that the two are connected?

Glorious Summer is a dark short story set during the Wars of the Roses, loosely inspired by the folkloric tale from Lincolnshire, England: The Black Lady of Bradley Woods.

Includes an Author’s Afterword, featuring more about the legend that inspired the story.
